And for the 4th year in a row, those claiming to have the best chili in town can prove their worth at the annual Chili Cook-off at Milwaukee Harley-Davidson. To spice things up this year, the company is giving those bold enough the opportunity to demonstrate the true meaning of peppering in some fun, ala a hot pepper eating contest. On October 10, upwards of 100 chili makers will descend upon Milwaukee Harley-Davidson, armed with 5-gallon pots and enough cumin and cayenne to stave off an army of thieves. Row after row of unique chili recipes, representing generations upon generations of family secrets, will be on display and available for sampling, all in an effort to crown the next chili champion. Here in Wisconsin, chili is more than just a dish, it's a pastime, said Chaz Hastings, owner of Milwaukee Harley-Davidson and self-proclaimed chili master. When you think of chili, you think of the camaraderie of camping, tailgating and deer hunting. When we stated this four years ago, we didn't know what to expect. It's now become one of our most anticipated events of the year. But word to all the contendersI have a new recipe that will win it all. Speaking of trash talking, attendees of this year's event can expect to find plenty of competition, and, of course, good chili. Last year's winner, Bruce Buege, is defending his title and doesn't expect to hand over his crown anytime soon. I'm adding a few new touches to my recipe this year, and bringing plenty to go around, so all the chili lovers out there can get their fill, said Buege who narrowly beat out the field. It's always a great event and I have to give it to Milwaukee Harley. They know how to put on a good event. Milwaukee Harley is hoping to get as many people as possible to attend because net-proceeds from the $5 donation fee goes to the Hunger Task Force. The donation gets you six large samples to test out. Participants then vote on the chili they like best. Business participants have the opportunity to win a variety of hefty advertising and promotional packages totaling over $8,000; while the individual winners walk away with lots of Milwaukee Harley-Davidson dollars, and their chili recipe featured at a local tavern. An added twist to this year's event is the Five Alarm Fury, a hot pepper eating contest that will pit a handful of some of the boldest and heat-resistant challengers against each other to see who can eat the most hot peppers in one minute. In addition to the abundance of chili for tasting and hot pepper contest, the 4th annual Chili Cook-off will feature live music from Walking Backwards and Miller Lite beer. The event is sponsored by Hupy and Abraham who reminds attendees to watch out for bikers.
