Rolling Thunder Ride to the Wall (# 17800)
16-May-2012 - 26-May-2012 (Wednesday - Saturday)
Held each year during Memorial Day weekend, the Ride to the Wall Motorcycle Rallyorganized by Rolling Thunder, Inc. sees hundreds of thousands of bikers of all stripesrumbling into our nation's capital on every imaginable type of motorcycle to pay homageto the many men and women who have served this great country of ours with distinctionand honor.
Started in 1987 it was originally called the 'Run to the Wall' with an organizedmotorcycle ride that ended at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.Since its inception riders have come from near and far, from all over America, and fromall walks of life to gather at the wall and commemorate the passing of our fallen brothersand sisters, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons.
They also remember and keep alive the memory of those listed as POWs (Prisoners ofWar), as well as those who are MIA (Missing in Action) by paying tribute to them withservices and prayers after taking part in the “Ride for Freedom” and continuing theirsupport of efforts to find these lost service men and women.
Those efforts include lobbying of our nation's politicians. Efforts that have led to suchmeasures as the Missing Service Personnel Act of 1993; a bill which was co-sponsoredby the Rolling Thunder Ride to the Wall members, and that states a service membercannot be listed as KIA (Killed in Action) without substantial evidence.
Rolling Thunder, Inc., the official, non-profit organization founded by former UnitedStates Marine Corp Corporal Ray Manzo, retired Army Sergeant Major John Holland, and former Marine First Sergeant Walt Sides has as its mission the objective ofcontinuing the search for American soldiers who are POWs or MIA.

The popularity of the ride, and growing support around the nation for its many endeavorswas critical in helping Rolling Thunder, Inc. in convincing the United States Governmentto issue a POW/MIA postage stamp in 1995, as well as in passing the Respect forAmerica's Fallen Heroes Act of 2006, which they co-authored, and which preventsprotests from taking place at funeral proceedings of fallen military personnel.
Rolling Thunder, Inc. has also formed Rolling Thunder Charities, a non-profit charityorganization, in order to deal with all the many generous donations that have poured inover the years. Since none of the staff, officers, or board members of Rolling Thunder,Inc. are paid, there was a great need to find a way to utilize these monies, and so the
